Betta Edu: She Must Be Made To Account For The Rot in NSIPA, Npower, Conditional Cash Transfer Programme - Comrade Emmanuel Abela
No fewer than twenty eight Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) in the Niger Delta region have warned President Bola Ahmed Tinubu against reinstating the suspended Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Dr. Betta Edu back into his cabinet.
The Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) claimed that Betta Edu, while in office as Minister for Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation worked at variance with the Renewed Hope Agenda of the current administration.
Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) under the aegis of South South Civil Society Organizations insisted that any attempt to reappoint the embattled Minister for Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation will be tantamount to endorsing corruption and will be vehemently resisted by Nigerians.
In a statement signed by Comrade Emmanuel Abela, and made available to newsmen in Abuja, the Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) rejected the idea of reappointing the suspended Minister for Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation Betta Edu, saying it will impact negatively on the present administration’s war against corruption and ineptitude.
“We passionately appeal to Mr. President not to tarnish the image of his meritorious adminstration by considering the recall of Beta Edu.
“She must be probed and the findings made public for all to see.
“She must be made to account for the rot in NSIPA, Npower, Conditioner Cash Transfer programme and the lopsided appointments she made while in office.
“Her reappointment will no doubt isolate the South South region and endanger Mr. President’s re-election come 2027”, the statement said.
According to the Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), “As patriots and firm believers in Mr. President’s fight against corruption and ineptitude, we reject in totality attempts by a few corrupt elements to smuggle Dr. Beta Edu back into the Federal Executive Council.
“Even though we’re from the same region, we reject in totality, anything that has to do with Beta Edu.
Recall that Betta Edu, was suspended from office of the Ministry for Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation about six months into her appointment over an alleged ₦3,000,000,000 fraud and the diversion of funds from the National Social Investment Programme Agency (NSIPA) into personal accounts amongst others.
