NDDC Receives Youth Internship Scheme Database
On behalf of NDDC Managing Director Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, the Executive Director of Projects, Sr. Victor Antai, received the database of applicants for the youth internship scheme at the Commission’s Port Harcourt headquarters. Antai announced that 10,000 youths from the Niger Delta region would be selected to receive a monthly stipend of N50,000 for one year. The registration portal for the initiative closed on August 31, 2024, with over three million applicants. The selection process is currently ongoing.
Antai assured that the selection would be transparent and efficient, emphasizing the Commission’s dedication to delivering the program effectively. He also noted that Southbridge Consultants developed the database and provided a detailed analysis of the applicants' data. To expedite the selection process, the NDDC partnered with another consultancy firm, Angala Fintech, to handle the selection at both state and local government levels.
After receiving the database from Southbridge, Antai stated that it was handed over to Angala Fintech for further processing. The NDDC’s Finance Directorate will manage the fund disbursement to the beneficiaries throughout the one-year internship, ensuring prompt financial support.
Engr. Emeka Ani, NDDC’s Director of Information Technology, praised the Executive Director of Projects for his dedication to the success of the internship program. He also expressed gratitude to Southbridge Consultants' Managing Director, Mr. Dagogo Tolofari, for creating a robust database capable of managing a large volume of data without technical difficulties. Ani highlighted that the database would not only aid in the smooth implementation of the scheme but would also support future youth empowerment initiatives.
"We are thrilled by the potential of this internship scheme to bring about lasting change for our youth," Ani said, adding that the large number of applicants reflects a strong desire for growth and opportunity in the region.
